Be careful who you trust. The Mailer family is oblivious to the terrible danger that enters their lives when seven-year-old Anthony is referred to the child guidance service by the family GP, following the breakdown of his parents’ marriage. Fifty-eight-year-old Dr David Galbraith, a sadistic, predatory paedophile, employed as a consultant child psychiatrist, has already murdered one child in the soundproofed cellar below the South Wales Georgian town-house he shares with his wife and two young daughters. When Anthony becomes Galbraith’s latest obsession he will stop at nothing to make his grotesque fantasies reality.
But can Anthony be saved before it’s too late?  The book includes content that some readers may find disturbing from the start.
It is dedicated to survivors everywhere.  Brilliantly gripping, White is the Coldest Colour will have you hooked from the very first page and holding your breath to the heart-pounding and shocking conclusion.

My Review

This is a difficult read and may be upsetting for parents but I feel we need to open our eyes to the fact that this is going on today somewhere.

Dr David Galbraith is an evil paedophile who presents a caring, compassionate face to the outside world but his family knows different his wife has had her spirit broken and their children live in fear.  To the outside world he is a brilliant child psychologist with a brilliant reputation.  When he chooses Anthony as his next victim the game changes when he sees the child moving out of his range and from there everything changes and the adrenaline starts pumping as we hold our breath in anticipation of what happens next,

A paedophile ring is identified the extent of which the police have never known there are several cases that are linked together and everyone involved is shocked by the sheer number of victims.

The book has very realistic characters that develop well through the course of the book.  It is fast paced and had me turning page after page well into the night as I needed to know there was a happy ending.

A major hate of mine is reading a book that has no realistic ending and unfortunately this is one of those books.  I thought the conclusion was unbelievable and unrealistic and was not really an ending at all.  I appreciate there is a Book 2 but …..

Thank you to Bloodhound Books and Netgalley for the advance copy.

My Review

This is book 9 in the Hillary Greene series and picks up 2 months after the cliffhanger at the end of Book 8.

Hillary has had 2 months off work to recover from the death of her friend and gets thrown straight in to the deep end when an old man is found dead in his garden.  Hillary feels she is not functioning at her best and starts to second guess herself when she is unable to find clues or any way forward in discovering who murdered an old man that harmed no-one (or did he?).

In addition she is trying to stop Janine from coming apart at the seams but in trying to keep the young woman occupied she invites trouble which comes back to bite her.

This is a fast paced book full of intrigue and twists and turns that keeps the pages turning.  The 2 different stories make for a very interesting read and there are different aspects interwoven that makes it a very interesting read.

I have to be honest and say I didn’t love this one quite as much as the others but it is still well worth 5 stars.

To say that ‘Ruthless’ is brilliant has to be an understatement of the year.  I can’t really put into words how much I enjoyed it and brilliant doesn’t seem enough somehow.  I picked up ‘Ruthless’ at a rather stressful time for me and I was in need of a distraction.  Well once I picked up ‘Ruthless’ I was addicted from the first word on the first page and I just couldn’t put the book down again as I was desperate to find out if Will and Rhiannon escaped.  Read more here

This is a well-written crime thriller authored by a best-selling serving police detective. Although not one of my favorites by Mr. Gallagher, the premise is a good one. It is a fast paced thriller that keeps the pages turning as we are taken on a roller coaster ride with twists and turns a many and I didn’t have a clue how it was going to turn out.  If I thought it was fast paced at the beginning from about 75% the pace picks up and the adrenaline pumps as we are treated to a mind blowing conclusion you will not forsee.  Read more here

What would you do to survive in a world of ruthless criminals and drug dealers? Decide for yourself in this gripping and gritty thriller. Written by a best-selling serving police detective.

This is Rhiannon’s story. She thinks she’s a good person but to stay alive in a very violent world she will be tested to the limit.

Will Dryden wakes to discover his girlfriend Janey is dead from an overdose. Without his friend and partner in crime, he has nothing left to lose.

Meanwhile, police are called to the scene of a car accident – date night gone tragically wrong for Melissa Cooper – and left to break the news to Mel’s teenage niece, Rhiannon. For Rhiannon, it’s a devastating loss. Now she’s on her own.

Will and Rhiannon’s paths cross. Rhiannon gets sucked into the world of the drug dealers and falls into the sights of Aaron – the gang leader. He has a point to prove and is unhappy that he isn’t getting the respect he wants. Aaron takes brutal revenge when the police start to close in on him.

Can Rhiannon stay alive and save herself and Will from the murderous Aaron? Who is ruthless enough to survive?

This pulsating crime thriller takes you on an adrenaline-packed ride with a shocking end.

Perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Damien Boyd, Rachel Abbott, Patricia Gibney or Mark Billingham.

BLOG BLITZ: The Scent of Guilt by Tony J Forder

Due to unfortunate circumstances I only posted my initial thoughts when it was my stop on this Blog Blitz.  I am now delighted to share with you my full review for this brilliant book,

SCENT OF GUILT 1.2.jpgTHE SCENT OF GUILT by Tony J Forder

Available from: Amazon UK    Amazon US   Amazon Australia

Twelve years after he left Peterborough under a cloud, DI Bliss returns to the city and the major crimes team. Having spent years policing organised crime, Bliss is plunged straight into the heart of a serial murder investigation.

Meanwhile, Penny Chandler has been promoted to DS and has been working in London on the Met’s sexual crimes team. But when two rapes are reported on her old patch in Peterborough, Chandler volunteers to interview the victims.

Chandler joins the hunt for the attacker and soon notices a possible link between the rapes and Bliss’s murder investigation. Could the same man be responsible?

Just as both cases seem to stall, a call comes in from an ex-policeman who knows of unsolved cases in the USA with a similar MO. Bliss finds himself travelling to California to hunt for a killer whose reach may have stretched further than anyone could possibly imagine.

But in order to catch the murderer, Bliss must discover the killer’s motive. A motive which should have remained buried in the past…

My Review

I am a big fan of Tony Forder.  I have not yet read Bad to the Bone but read and absolutely loved Degrees of Darkness and Scream Blue Murder.

DI Bliss left Peterborough 12 years ago and has just managed to work his way back.  The book begins with him being thrown head first into a murder investigation that turns out to be the 3rd case with the same MO: there is a serial killer on the loose.  Him being given the investigation doesn’t go down well with his superior and others at the station so not only does he have to solve the case he also has to earn the friendship and respect of his colleagues.

DI Bliss is a damaged character with health and anger issues but one that grows on you as the realisation that under all that is a compassionate man who is determined to bring the villains to justice.  He soon earns the respect of his team and they all work together in an effective manner.

As with all Tony’s books the suspense and intrigue starts from the first page and from there I was hooked.  There are 2 cases running through the story one is a serial rapist and the other a murderer who targets old women.  Bliss soon gets a handle on the profile of the murder suspect but is totally baffled by the rape cases.  When a tiny link between the 2 is identified the intrigue increases and even more so when a Policeman from California notices similarities to a cold case over there.

This is a fast paced book with many twists and turns.  The reader is taken on a roller coaster ride throughout the book to a breath-taking conclusion.  An absolutely brilliant read and well worth the 5 stars.  Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the advance copy and to Tony for writing such a gripping story.

22365495_499399223774817_4544080396425244912_nAuthor Bio:

Tony J Forder is the author of the critically acclaimed crime thriller Bad to the Bone, the first in a series featuring DI Jimmy Bliss and DC Penny Chandler. The sequel, The Scent of Guilt, is available from 17 February 2018. A third book in the series is currently in progress.

Tony’s dark, psychological crime thriller, Degrees of Darkness, featuring ex-detective Frank Rogers, was also published by Bloodhound Books. This was intended to be a stand-alone novel, but Tony is now considering the possibility of a follow-up.

One book that will definitely see a sequel is Scream Blue Murder. This was published in November 2017, and received praise from many, including fellow authors Mason Cross and Matt Hilton.

Some years ago, Tony won a short story competition judged by an editor from Pan Books. The story, Gino’s Bar and Grille, went on to be published in Dark Voices 2, part of the celebrated Pan Book of Horror series. Three further short story sales followed: Book End, published in Dark Voices 4, Character Role, in FEAR magazine, and finally A Grim Story, which featured in A Rattler’s Tale. It was the start of Tony’s publishing journey.

This is a great read with an interesting premise which I felt was well researched by the author. I read this book in one sitting which is something that I don’t do often. Flashpoint works well as a standalone. I haven’t read any of the others but I think I would’ve got more from this book if I had.  Read more here

Thomas Balden works for the Surveillance Support Unit otherwise known as the SSU, who are used by other agencies and called the unkind nickname of ‘floaters’. Donna’s Book Blog

This book starts with a bang in the form of a terrorist attack and it is sadly current with the recent terrorist attacks that we have had in the UK.  There is just the right amount of suspense in the book for me, it was set at a great pace, the plot was genuine and well planned out and I thought that the characters were great.  Read more here

Do you love gripping espionage thrillers full of great twists and plenty of action?

Meet Thomas Bladen. Smart, sardonic, and in mortal danger.

LONDON COMES UNDER ATTACK AND BLADEN’S LIFE IS FALLING APART.

As the security services scramble to deal with the aftermath of a coordinated terror attack, undercover operative Thomas Bladen is in deep trouble. His department is taken over by MI5, his girlfriend’s gone, and he’s “lost” a handgun during surveillance of a politician.

Then two of his senior colleagues disappear. Who’s taken them and why? Bladen’s search for answers is blocked at every turn. Is there a double agent in his team?

In a thrilling conclusion, Bladen must face his doubts and put his life at risk against forces whose allegiance is unclear. This is the reckoning.

If you like Mark Dawson, Rob Sinclair, Lee Child, or Vince Flynn you’ll enjoy these fast-paced thrillers.
