Past Echoes 1.2_previewBook Description

Jake Boulder is back and he’s tasked with tracking down a man due to inherit a small fortune. Not only that, he must also reveal the secret which forced a young woman to flee New York some forty years ago. The evidence he needs is hidden in a safety deposit box and while Boulder has the key, the only clue he has for box’s location is a series of numbers etched onto the key and a mysterious list of names.

Boulder has his work cut out since he must also locate his estranged father, Cameron MacDonald, so that Cameron can donate bone marrow to Boulder’s half-brother John.

In a game of cat and mouse, he must solve the case and find the two men without alerting those who control New York’s underworld.

Can Boulder survive against both the mafia and a professional hitman, in what is his toughest case yet?

My Review

I do love this Jake Boulder series his character has grown over the 3 books but they would still work very well as stand alone.

This story is slightly different in that there is a strong personal aspect to it.  I like the way Jake is learning to love and that there is more to life than the fighting.  His character develops in this book into a complex individual with deep feelings that are beginning to crawl their way to the surface.

It begins with the death of a dear friend who leaves a legacy to Jake in the form of a series of clues.  Alongside this we have Jake’s brother John who needs a bone marrow donor so as well as solving clues Jake also needs to track down his estranged father.

The book is a mix of emotions and fast paced thrilling adventures that see Jake take on the might of the mafia.  A bit far-fetched you may think!  Not with Jake Boulder as the star of the show and Graham Smith behind the pen.  This book is a very believable scenario where one (or 2 because we mustn’t forget the amazing Alfonzo) brilliant planning brain has every chance of out manoeuvring even the highest people in the mafia.  Why he is provoked to do this is for you to find out.

Brilliantly written, fast paced and gripping this is Graham Smith at his very best.  I am so pleased he is now working on Book 4 and I am hoping for many more in this series.

Many thanks to Bloodhound Books and Netgalley for the advance copy of this book.

This is the second book in a mystery series is set in 1960s Brighton, a tumultuous time of change and opportunity.

RUBY BAKER SERIES
Book 1: BEFORE I LEFT

My Review

This is book 2 in the Ruby Baker series and is set in Brighton in the 1960’s.  They do work well as stand alone but you learn about Ruby and Mary’s background in book 1.

Ruby is on the beach when she sees and hears a young girl screaming.  The girl is traumatised and wont speak.  Shortly afterwards a woman who was sent to prison for murdering her young daughter is released, still pleading her innocence, and asks Ruby to help find her daughter. There are other strange happenings too.  Is it coincidence or is something else going on?

This is a very intriguing read.  As a mother I was gripped from the start.  It is every mother’s nightmare to lose a daughter  but to be accused of murdering your own child is horrific.  Ruby is up against a lot of people who are convinced Beverley is guilty. All the evidence pointed to her.  Will Ruby and her friends be able to unravel the clues to uncover the truth?  I just kept turning page after page late into the night.

The characters develop well and there are personal issues interwoven into the story to give it a realistic human element.  I love the dark Will I am sure there is more to learn about this strange man who has Ruby’s back.

Brilliant read and I am looking forward to more in this series.

Hi I’m Daisy White – mum, entrepreneur, and writer. I started off self-publishing, then signed YA series to two fabulous US publishers.

I’ve always wanted to write crime but none of my initial manuscripts were anywhere near good enough to show the world!

In 2016 I rewrote an earlier idea and entered it into the UK International Novel Writing Competition. It was long-listed and that gave me the confidence I needed to submit to publishers.

My second crime novel for Joffe Books, ‘Before I Found You’ is out Feb 2018, and my first story for younger children will be published in an anthology for Patchwork Raven later this year. I’m also finishing off a standalone thriller, which I’m really excited about!

As well as writing, I give talks, workshops and signings. Writing is an obsession, a compulsion and a love, but like most writers I also diversify to pay the bills!
