Joanna Larum’s Reviews

This book grabbed my interest on the first page and didn’t let go all the way through. It doesn’t seem to fit into any particular genre and, in fact, hovers over a number of genres, making for an extremely interesting read.  Read more here

The Bookworm Drinketh

I enjoyed the premise of genetically altered children hiding their powers to be let out of “the Nursery” to have “normal” lives and finding each other out in the world, but it was a little rushed. I wish the book had been longer to allow for the relationship between Belinda and William to grow in a more organic fashion.   Read more here

Kirsty Through the Looking Glass

These initial pages filled me with hope for the rest of the books – and what I’ve managed to read so far has not disappointed. There is no question that Deryn is a skilled writer as the books are well written yet easy to read, some of my biggest fears when it comes to e-books!  Read more here

Mind Garbage

Just the prologue had me intrigued, in fact I’d go as far as to say that the 7 year old versions of the characters actually made me preemptively love their older counterparts, and that was before I even started the chapter one.  Read more here

Ginger Book Geek

I must admit that I took to the main characters in the first book from the start.  Belinda is a young woman, who has been genetically altered.  At the age of 7, Belinda was put up for adoption because she hadn’t shown any ‘special talents’.  She was adopted by a lovely sounding couple.  When we meet her in ‘Catching Love When It Falls’, her father has sadly died and she is closer than ever to her Mam.   Read more here

AUTHOR BIO

I write futuristic and fantasy fiction, spiced with romance and adventure. This allows my imagination to run free, to create interesting characters caught in unusual circumstances and events. Sometimes I have the pleasure of watching science and technology catch up with my imagination.

I also write Young Adult, short stories and flash fiction; articles on writing and I am published in these genre. I self-published a children’s rhyming book and once won a prize for a short screen script.

I’m a published poet and I endeavour to put my poetry skills into my fiction writing to enhance the word pictures I create.

I live in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand which lives up to its name. I belong to the Romance Writers of N.Z., Tauranga Writers, and Spec.Fic.NZ (speculative fictionNZ).
